White Rabbit Gift Exchange!
This is similar to a “White Elephant” gift exchange only your gift should be magic related. So find an effect or magic related item you are not using and wrap it up in Christmas wrapping!  Mary Cay Gold will keep this fun Ring 60 tradition going on July 11th.
Basic White Rabbit Rules
1. Each Player Must Bring One White Rabbit Gift
Everyone brings a gift to the meeting. There must be one gift for each player to take home.  Your gift could be a magic effect you no longer use or something you bought at an auction. It could also be a magic “related” item , like a ceramic or glass bowl with cards or a rabbit in hat statue. Your imagination is the key. Your item should be in the $10 value range
2. Gifts Must Be Wrapped
Part of the gift exchange party excitement comes from the fact that you get to guess which gift is better before you choose one to open.
3. Players Must Open And Steal Gifts Orderly
Mary Cay Gold will oversee the order to the whole process. As a common white rabbit rule, names or numbers are drawn to determine who goes first and who follows next.
4. Each Player Walks Away With Final Gift They Are Holding
When all gifts have been opened and all the stealing has finished, the gift that everyone ends up having is now theirs and they get to take it home. Sometimes, when the game is over, people like to offer each other to swap and that’s ok too but obviously optional.

Following the gift exchange there will also be Open Mic.
Please present your effect with a “Christmas Twist

Our Banquet Performers: Randi Rain is one of Magic’s best kept secrets. In addition to her one of a kind performances of classic magic with a devilish twist, she is known as one of the ‘go to’ builders of custom props for magicians looking for something more than a little different. Her work has been featured in everything from Hollywood movies, to tours of Japan, to amusement parks across the world. She can be seen on YouTube teaching how to create works of art from scratch, to refurbishing toy robots, to performing magic.

Nicole Cardoza is a new face on the magic scene. She just completed a residency at Austin’s art space and collective workspace,  The Cathedral, and this will mark her first performance for the magic community. Her work is grounded in the history of legendary Black magicians of the past including Henry Box Brown and the Armstrong Family. Here’s your chance to catch a rising star on the magic scene.

Our headline performer is Michael Weber. Michael Weber has performed his own brand of original, award-winning magic (IBM, SAM, FISM) for over three decades. You have seen his work in Hollywood blockbusters including Forrest GumpOcean’s 13The Prestige and The Illusionist. While he often lectures for magicians, it is rare to see him perform some of his closely guarded miracles that have earned him his rightful status as a magical legend.  ….And don’t forget a special guest performer or two. Surprise await!

Ask yourself – Is there a Drawing Duplication so perfect that all you need is any four pieces of cardboard, any four markers and a room full of spectators you want to destroy? No preshow, no glimpses, no nonsense. Get a sneak peek at a miracle. Is it possible to learn a memorized deck in two minutes or less? Can you instantly, easily and permanently know every card in order, the card at every number from 1 to 52 and the numerical and relative location of every card using any deck and only your brain? Yes, and Michael Weber will teach you. Can you learn the innermost wants, likes or fears of anyone using only a pencil and paper? Yes, and Michael Weber will show you how. When was the last time someone fooled you, inspired you, made you laugh, made you think and most of all made you proud to call yourself a magician? Michael Weber has performed his own brand of original, award-winning magic (IBM, SAM, FISM) for over three decades. You have seen his work in Hollywood blockbusters including Forrest GumpOcean’s 13The Prestige and The Illusionist. Now you can meet the man behind the miracles. Weber promises an amazing blend of original magic with cards, impromptu non-card magic and powerful mentalism. Join Michael Weber and press the reset button on the way you think about magic.

Ron Cartlidge is recovering from another trip to the hospital for his foot and a bout with COVID. He is back at Brookdale Rehab Westlake Hills and doing much better. Recently, Kent Cummins had a nice visit with him and presented him with the posters from the 2021 TAOM Convention.  Ron was in good spirits, and talked about planning to go to the SAM convention in Las Vegas.
If you have the time, Ron would appreciate a visit or phone call from us.

Peter the Adequate and Kent also had a nice meeting with
Will Mannis. Kent reported that he is also doing well, was alert, and very much himself.

Kent Cummins our soon to be appointed, “Good and Welfare Ambassador,” also reported he had a long telephone talk with Opie Houston, who is doing better and is willing to have visitors if fully vaccinated.

LOST IN THE SHUFFLE
a feature documentary

By Jon Ornoy
A cinematic exploration of the long history between magicians and playing cards and the murder mystery hidden in their art.

I’m a Canadian filmmaker who is currently in development on a feature-length documentary on the long history between playing cards and magic called Lost in the Shuffle in collaboration with two-time world champion magician Shawn Farquhar.

As a lifelong fan of magic I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to meet Shawn a couple of years ago and when, over a beer, he started to lay out the elements of his Court Card Conspiracy story to me, this movie immediately began to form in my mind. As a fourth-generation magician he’d been working with cards his entire life without ever really looking at them and considering their design. That all changed on a visit to Chateau D’Amboise in France where he realized that he recognized symbols on the castle walls from the King of Hearts; this epiphany has led to a theory that the card actually represents Charles VIII of France who died at Amboise in 1498. But where history holds that Charles died from hitting his head on a doorframe, Shawn believes that he actually died at the hand of his wife Anne and that this cold case murder story has been encoded in the cards we still use today.

We’re in the process of assembling a crowdfunding campaign that will launch on October 19th and I’m reaching out today because I thought the story might be of interest to your IBM Ring and hoped that you’d be inclined to share our efforts. I’ve attached a short summary here and you can head to our website here to see the trailer as well.
